Dictionary of The Avant Gardes

This reference “dictionary” provides encyclopedic length articles for more complex and involved topics; length of biographical entries varies. Additionally, art terms and techniques associated with avant-garde movements are explained in adequate detail. Interestingly, this resource treats the Italian and Russian aspects of the movement, and Cubo-Futurism as three distinctive entries. Recommendations are included to promote further reading and are presented under the headings “Books,” “Website,” “Works,” “Bibliography,” “Exhibition Catalogue,” or “Interpretation,” at the end of the main entry. Although black and white illustrations and photographs are inserted throughout the dictionary, a special insert contains a quantity of color plates–a commendable feature in a ready-reference resource.
